Every year I check out the Ottawa Home & Garden Show. It’s usually the same crowd of vendors…. you know who I’m talking about windows, doors, kitchens, bathrooms, decor &of course food…. but this year was different! I was pleasantly surprise when I met the super kind ladies (volunteers I might add) at the Master Gardeners booth.

This was really the JEM of the show – stopped me in my tracks and I thought “what a great idea”. Here’s how it works: There is a city-wide group of ladies who are on stand-by during certain hours to take your gardening calls. Ask them anything…. how do I cut these back, how do i help these grow, what kind of plant will thrive on my property, and what do I need to do for my plants over the winter, and the list goes on, etc.,

This information is tremendously invaluable for home owners who have just purchased a new home, and don’t know what to do with the garden, or flower beds on the property. This can also be helpful when you are considering selling, think curb appeal!!

I think supporting local helpful initiatives like this in our community is hard to come by, so I thought I would share my findings and the positive energy put out by these ladies.

P.S. they also do speaking events. To find out more about Master Gardeners of Ottawa-Carleton:
