Looking for something to do in Ottawa doesn’t have to be hard. Here’s my version of a list of quirky things to do that are both Fun and Free (or Relatively-Free). Help me ad to the list by adding your ideas in the comments section. Think Quirky & interesting.



Totally Free:

Park at the back of the airport (along Leitrim Road near Bowesville) and watch the planes land – bring a snack and some good conversation

Take a photo tour – take your camera and just walk & capture some of the best Ottawa sights. Try STREETART (Street Art) . Share them on my facebook page.

Create yourself a Scavenger Hunt – like the ones on Meetup.com groups. Ottawa 25-40 Social is my favourite

Have a clothing swap with your friends – or visit Ottawa Swap to attend one (monthly)

Visit the Bike Dump to get a new ride

Try a dish you’ve always said you didn’t like – Haggis anyone?

Have you tried Geocaching yet? That’s is always a good time – but consider a GPS

Try a new bike path on the NCC bike paths. My friend Charles is a pro! Yeay Bike Park #OttawaBluesFest

Create a mixed tape (circa 1989) okay maybe an itunes playlist

Have a movie or TV series marathon – may I suggest Harry Potter?

Take a tour of Parliment hill

Enjoy the garden’s near the Experimental farm

Volunteer at the SPCA – become a dog walker

Take the kids to a local Splash pads – a great way to cool down

See what’s happening for free at the library – you can even check-out movies or books on CD

Do some batch cooking with a group of freinds (no need after to buy yucky pre-made frozen meals)

Go window shopping but leave all your cards and money at home

Volunteer – there are lots of great organizations to choose from & unique things to do

Get on any city bus and see where it takes you

Have a game night – break out the monopoly or Crazy Birds!

Host a pot-luck with friends – check Kraft for receipt suggestions

Drive or walk through Rockcliffe Park

Not so Totally Free:

Enjoy a movie with a friend Cheap Night at the movies

Pick a receipt – research your carbon foot print and then get the items, and make it

Cozy up in the front seat and catch a movie at the drive in Gatineau or Greely

Electronik Piknic in Gatineau Park – Sundays 2-9pm

Stroll through an ethnic grocery store – T&T or St. Laurent & Belfast (pick up a few ingredients and see what kind of recipe you can come up with)

Check out a movie – Rainbow Cinema Downstairs St. Laurent Shopping Centre

Stroll through the Byward Market – get fresh produce – bread, cheese, maple syrup & have a picnic on major hill’s park
